Speaker 1:

Welcome to this episode of mortgage motivation advice you can use in life. I have a great friend with me today, miss Betsy, reshored coach, spiritual director, published author, all right Friend, accountability partner I don't know, I could call you all kind of things. I think you psych it because you always call me.

Speaker 1:

I don't think so, but you know, there's a spiritual world there is, and it's really weird, though, like when you do call me, I'm like why are you calling me? Did you talk to someone? Do you know I needed to hear from you? So I just want to say thank you. I mean, you're like such a great friend.

Speaker 2:

Thank you. You're a great friend to me.

Speaker 1:

So let's talk about you. Have some exciting things going on right now.

Speaker 2:

I do. I do, you know, with Betsy reshored consulting I am helping more people than I ever thought I could help. I didn't realize the need there was to help people internally at their businesses to take care of Drama and to put all the pieces together and just to work more efficiently and effectively. And then also, I had an Airbnb for five and a half years and closed that about two years ago. But during the time that I had it I wrote a book about the people that came through my Airbnb and they brought me so much joy. So I still have a Mary Kay business that I have residual income from. That has taught me and given me so many tools taught me so much and given me so many tools that I've been able to use in my business and in life.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and you did that for so many years like there's I don't think there's a little town in the state Louisiana that I can go in, that doesn't know Betsy reshored. You know there's always somebody that knows you, that's connected. So I mean you just do a great job and and going into the workplace and I'm grateful for the time that you spent with my staff here and just helping to understand their strengths and their weaknesses and helping me, you know, move them around and what makes them tech and those kind of things. Not just that, but with the spiritual direction. As you know, I run a faith-based business here and I want you to thank you for everything you've helped with getting that in the direction. But if you're a business and you're interested in getting you insight in, you know to help. Where would one start? Walk us through that process.

Speaker 2:

Well, first of all, you've got to know that you need help and you have to be willing to accept it Right to accept it and to do something about it you know, your people are your biggest expense and they're your most important investment, and so to take the time to do team building with them and learn more about them.

Speaker 2:

We learned through COVID that people want to be a part of something big.

Speaker 2:

We learned it even more and people want to be a part of a family and when they feel like they're part of the family they feel like the owner or leader knows them and they know what their part is in the business Then they're gonna stay and you want good people to stay and you know the times have changed and sometimes it's harder to get Good people and then to get them to stay.

Speaker 2:

But if, if a leader can do that for his team and continue to work on different team building going out to eat with them, having some emotional intelligence work done, having some assessments, done different things to keep it exciting and keep them learning and growing closer together that's one place that I play. Another place is a business that is either just getting started or they're at a place where they're kind of stale or they really want to have very big growth real quick. And those are the places where I play is to put the pieces together, get the vision aligned, to get the people in place, make sure all the processes and the data is being collected and everybody's following everything and being held accountable, and so that right there can make a difference for the team. Because when they know what the vision is and everybody knows it and everybody's on it and everybody knows their little piece or big piece, they're excited about it and it keeps them going, and I think one of the best things I did with my team here is that they wrote our vision statement themselves.

Speaker 1:

They got together, collaborated, brought everything together and it's our mission statements right here on the wall, but it's not me who wrote it. They wrote it. So it's their goals that they put together and you had a big part in helping me get there. So let's talk about this new book you have. I'm so excited so it's called Cajun Gumbo for the Soul. Praying for Travelers on their Journeys and your Spiritual Life is just unbelievable, and you taught me so much with Spiritual Direct when I grow up. I really want to be like you.

Speaker 2:

I don't know, mimi, you know I've got warts too.

Speaker 1:

you know Well, you do a great job. So let's talk about the book and when does it come out? And are you having a book release party, and like what are the details?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, well, okay, so we just yesterday I gave them the go ahead because there were some different edit pieces and you know it takes some time to do this. This was never on my bucket list to write a book, but I felt prompted by God to do that, and so it's going to come out, probably in October, and we're going to give a date so we can ask everybody to order a book right around that date, you know, and hopefully we'll be a best selling author for that, but it came to me.

Speaker 2:

I opened the Airbnb. I really didn't even know what an Airbnb was, but back in 2015, my daughter said Mom, you ought to open the Airbnb. You've got so much room in this home, so we researched it. My business manager did the research and said this is what it's about. My former husband said yeah, I tried out. If it didn't work, we'll close it down.

Speaker 2:

And I had so much fun. I felt like I was on vacation every time somebody came in. I didn't realize how much of a hostess I liked to be. You know now I'm not a cook. You know I can make things happen. I don't always make them, but I make them happen. Who knows force food's concerned? But I just loved being a hostess and so I set that up. And so many people came from all over the country and from all over the United States, and when COVID hit, all the nurses came. You know I was right there in Bendell Gardens by the Lafayette General and it was such a blessing to me to meet and learn about all these different people and their lives journey. And so I just people say you ought to write a book about. You've been having so much fun, write a book. And I thought, okay, I'll write a book. I had no idea what it was going to be, but it's actually a little prayer book and I I prayed for people in the upper rooms of my house.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that's amazing, I can't wait to read. So, talking about praying for people, you also do spiritual direction, where an individual can go give you a call, one-on-one, or you can do life coaching with you. Are you still am I saying that? Are you still taking clients?

Speaker 2:

I don't do as much life coaching. I'll do leadership development, team development, yeah, so more with business leaders. But I do spiritual direction and I can support businesses in helping to implement more spirituality in the workplace if they'd like yeah, and I love the retreat attended with you.

Speaker 1:

And was that your sister?

Speaker 2:

My sister is a counselor and she's a Christian counselor, and so she. We, supported each other in that little ministry.

Speaker 1:

Do you have another retreat coming up soon?

Speaker 2:

You know, I had planned one, and, with the book coming out, I decided no, because we're going to have a book signing party at Acadian Religious and at Crossroads Collective, and then I'll have another something at Antony's, and yeah, we have all that. It's interesting, though, because we don't have an exact date that the book's coming out and we won't know.

Speaker 1:

So you're waiting on the.

Speaker 2:

I'm waiting on Amazon to show up and say hey, we have it listed now. Okay, yeah, and when that happens, then we're going to set a date on the other things, on all the other things. But I've been in touch with everybody about it.

Speaker 1:

Well, if you don't mind, please let us know Once you have that we'll send out a massive e-blast and post it on all our social media. So, author, good friend, it's called Cajun Gumbo for the Soul and it's a prayer book for travelers and I love to travel. So, like you know, I guess if I'm traveling I need to read this right. And their journeys based on an Airbnb that you had here in Lafayette. So if you're interested in coaching within the workplace or leadership, please give my good friend a call. She's done a great job for me in a spiritual direction. And how would one reach you, betsy?

Speaker 2:

They could go to my website at wwwbetsycreshardcom, or they can email me at betsycreshard at gmail.

Speaker 1:

And of course, you can always call me and I'll share your number. I share your number all the time. I hope you're okay with that. Thank you so much for joining me today. Thank you for being my friend, ms Betsy Reshard, a coach, spiritual director and published author of the new book Cajun Gumbo for the Soul A Prayer Group for Travelers. Please pick it up, it'll be at Acadiana. Religious and Crossroads.

Speaker 2:

Actually the proceeds are going to Catholic Charities of Acadiana to serve the homeless.

Speaker 1:
