Speaker 1:

Welcome to this episode of Mortgage Motivation. Today I have with me Miss Adrienne. Did I get it right, adrienne? Adrienne, you know I'm so bad with that, I'm so sorry, a great friend, fontenot, actually ended up by accident falling in love with an aunt that I've become a great friend. It's funny how life makes you know full circle. Small world, small world, full circle. But she is. I call you in charge. I know you have an official title, but what's that title?

Speaker 2:

I wear many hats, but I'm the director. Executive director of the Home Builders Association.

Speaker 1:

And that's like hanging in a home builders association here in Lafayette which is constantly giving back to the community and we have a big upcoming event. We have a few big events coming up, we have our annual golf tournament but most important that how we give back through that association is through the Home for the Holidays that's coming up. Give me a little history about Home for the Holidays, how it started. Who had benefits? The whole nine yards, sure.

Speaker 2:

So back in 2005, a couple years in the making.

Speaker 2:

Prior to that, the Home Builders Association had long been involved in charitable giving but, we saw an opportunity to expand our efforts and we took what we were doing best, which was building homes, and we tried to leverage that with efforts from others in our community to really expand and broaden the reach of the dollars that we were pouring into our community. We used to use the parade of homes as the philanthropic arm of the Home Builders Association, but in 2005, we developed and rolled out the Home for the Holidays. We are in our 19th year.

Speaker 1:

And in 19 years, do you happen to know how much money we've donated back into the community?

Speaker 2:

I do so. In 19 years we have contributed over $2.8 million back into our community. Our campaign slogan since the beginning has been what's raised in Acadiana stays in Acadiana. We're very proud to support local shelter-related agencies whose efforts further the mission of the Association, which is to ensure safe and affordable shelter for members in our community. So the campaign annually benefits Faith House, which is a battered women and children shelter, lafayette's, habitat for Humanity, which assists individuals and families with home ownership, healing House, which is a safe haven shelter, our center for individuals and families who have experienced the death of a loved one. And then our final agency is Foster the Love, and that's an agency that helps to facilitate transition of children into foster care. And so the Home Builders Association itself is a nonprofit organization, a trade organization, and so we're just very proud and humbled to be a part of this campaign annually that we, through cooperation with so many, can create such impact and such lasting effect that we're able to help our neighbors in need.

Speaker 1:

So tell me a little bit about the campaign, like where can we get a ticket? When does it start? Where can we see the home? Like the whole breakdown on that.

Speaker 2:

Sure. So this year's house is built by legendary contractors.

Speaker 1:

That we have with us today. We do Welcome guys.

Speaker 2:

And I should back up and say that it's a collaborative effort of so many in the association Obviously legendary takes the lead in managing the project and we're so grateful for the countless hours that they have completely volunteered to oversee the construction of the home. But it is the blood, sweat, tears, resources, donations, discounts of so many in our organization, in our community, that enable us to construct this home for, as you know, as little expense as possible so that we're able to create a better net profit that we're able to pour back into the community.

Speaker 1:

So when do the tickets go on sale?

Speaker 2:

The tickets will be available beginning October 16th. We launch about a 10-week campaign, so beginning October 16th through December 12th that's going to be the final day to purchase your ticket. They will be available for purchase at Lafayette locations of Doug Ashey Building Materials. That's on Johnson and Varro School Road but always available during those dates. Online and it's home for the holidays lacom. Home for the holidays, lacom. Real simple you can visit the website, purchase one or numerous tickets. How much are the tickets? They are $100 a piece, Is there?

Speaker 1:

a limit on the tickets that are sold, or is it unlimited?

Speaker 2:

We have a maximum amount of tickets available. That number is 8,500. So the odds of you winning this home truly are greater than winning the lottery. And, of course, you're helping out a tremendous cause and doing some wonderful work in your community.

Speaker 2:

So, we really appreciate the support. We could build a house all day, but without the community's efforts to support the project and the campaign in purchasing the tickets, it's truly an effort on the part of so many to make it successful and I know so many of the associations that are benefiting from this rely on that money.

Speaker 1:

Healing houses my flamboyant three that I support the most. I lost my father at the age of five and did not have those resources available that many years ago, so it's really I've had opportunity to visit and be a part of that program and they're just really a great association. So even if you don't want another house, please buy a ticket.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely, and we do have a cash prize as well. So if you're not in a position to take possession of the house or you don't care to bother with it, our slogan this year is win a house or win $100,000.

Speaker 2:

So you take your pick. And, as you said, I mean the work that these agencies do is really invaluable in our community. They have been able to expand their reach and their efforts. As an example, healing House has taken their location from an older home in downtown Lafayette to a completely remodeled home in the center of Lafayette. They've expanded their groups that they hold their sessions. They've even been able to bring their programs into the school system and service children that would not otherwise be able to reach their facility. So with the Home for the Holidays, your $100, if you even consider $25 per agency, your $25, your $100 really goes a long way in helping members of this community.

Speaker 1:

And one more time how can they purchase a ticket?

Speaker 2:

Home for the Holidays. Lacom, you can go to Lafayette locations of Dugashi Building Materials or you can contact our ticket hotline and that's 866-485-3239.

Speaker 1:

Now let's talk a little bit about the house, the beautiful home that you have the opportunity to win with your purchase of that ticket. So we have Blake Romero and Bobby Vanoy. Am I saying it right, correct? We're going to talk about legendary contractors in a little bit and how you guys got started on another episode. But let's talk about the Home for the Holiday House. I know that had to be a tough decision, because that's a commitment, it's a volunteering. Did y'all have to discern about it, or what made you guys decide to jump in?

Speaker 4:

No, it really wasn't tough at all, so we almost got involved last year. We had volunteered last year. They had already selected a builder for the home last year, so we volunteered for this year and we were selected as the builder.

Speaker 1:

So tell me a little bit about the house.

Speaker 4:

So the house is In the reserve off of Tolson. It's a two-story home on a corner lot. It's just above 2600 square foot living, a four-bedroom, three-bath.

Speaker 1:

And I hear the wives made the selections. Tell me about the selections. I hear it's going to be absolutely stunning.

Speaker 4:

So the selection or the design process was a collaboration effort between Nicole A Berry with niche and Kristen Lede with Lede interior, so they both helped with the selections.

Speaker 1:

OK, I didn't realize that they did the selections of the house. So what have been some of the challenges? Because I know we try to do this house high quality. What are some of the challenges that you guys have faced building the home?

Speaker 4:

I'd say the main challenge is probably timeline. I was very shocked. This year We've gotten more donations than I expected, which is again the outpour of support from everyone in the community. This year we did something a little different in the Home Builders Association. We did like a little kickoff session so to show the subs and the vendors what they were donating to, what they get for donating or what it supports, and I think that helped a lot and there was really an outpour of support. We've actually had to split some items, for example cabinets. Two different cabinet shops wanted to donate, so two people did, so it was really an outpour of support and I was very shocked and very happy about it.

Speaker 1:

So the subs that you have working with you on the house, are there subs that you guys work for a regular basis, or did you have volunteers that came out?

Speaker 3:

Right, so most of our subs pretty much donated a lot of their time and efforts to do all our work together, so it's mostly all our subs. We do have several people that we don't do work with that wanted to donate their time and efforts, so we did do that with them.

Speaker 1:

Now is it too late to send a donation? Let's say, if they want to donate to help is are y'all still in need of things to get the house done or are y'all where? Are y'all in the process? Because I mean, it's around the corner.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, the house is almost wrapped up. We're almost at the punch stage, I'd say by now. I don't know when this is going to air, but sod and fencing are about the two last items that we're still in need of donations for. So if anyone listening has sod or fencing service, let us know.

Speaker 1:

I totally understand. Well, guys, thank you so much. I want to have another episode with you and we're going to talk about Legendary and how that got started, and I want to thank y'all for volunteering your time and time away from your families to make this project reality and give back to Lafayette. It really means a lot to me and everyone else, and thank you very much. Yes, ma'am, home for the holidays. Get your ticket one more time.
