Real Estate with Purpose: Joel Bacque's Journey from Survivor to Community Champion

MiMi Doucet Season 3 Episode 14

Join me as I sit down with Joel Bacque, a seasoned real estate maestro from District South Real Broker, whose recent switch to a new brokerage has opened up a world of opportunities. Joel's expertise spans both residential and commercial sectors, but what truly sets this episode apart is his dedication to community service through his involvement with the American Cancer Society. His personal journey as a cancer survivor and his family's commitment to the cause add a layer of heartfelt inspiration to our conversation.

We also get the inside scoop on Schoeffler Built Homes, the brainchild of Bill and Lisa Schoeffler, who have been turning homebuyers' dreams into reality since the late 2000s. Joel gives us a preview of the breathtaking four-bedroom showcase set to dazzle at the Parade of Homes event. If you're a home enthusiast or in the market for a new residence, this episode will provide not only a glimpse into exceptional craftsmanship but also the warm spirit behind the homes. Join us for this intimate chat and discover how the Schoefflers, along with Legendary Contractors, are crafting more than just houses—they're creating homes with heart.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to this episode of Mortgage Motivation. Today I have a good friend and neighbor, Joel Backe. I'm so glad to have you in the neighborhood. How are you?

Speaker 2:

I'm doing great and excited to be here. Thank you so much for having me.

Speaker 1:

Well, thank you. So tell me a little bit about your business, the brokerage you've recently joined and the culture that you're walking into. How is that going?

Speaker 2:

So far, so good. It's going amazing. I'm a real estate agent. I do primarily residential real estate, but I also am licensed to do commercial as well. I've been an agent in Acadiana since 2012. So over 12 years now I work with District South Real Broker and I've been there since January 1st of this year and it's been great.

Speaker 1:

Not only is Joel a wonderful agent and helps on both the residential and the commercial side, he is constantly giving agent and helps on both the residential and the commercial side. He has constantly given back to Acadiana through the American Cancer Society. Correct. Yes, the efforts you and your family put through, that is just amazing and I want to say thank you.

Speaker 2:

Well, thank you. I appreciate that. As a cancer survivor myself, you know the cause is something that I hold very close to my heart and I'm happy to help in any way that I can.

Speaker 1:

And we love participating in that event. It's so much fun, you do a great job, you and your dad, and it's really a family event. But today we're here to talk about someone very special in an upcoming event. We have, I think, a mutual friend of ours that you represent. Tell me about the builder that you represent.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so I work with Bill Shuffler, with Shuffler Built Home, which is a team of Bill and Lisa Shuffler. They've been building in the Acadiana area ever since around 2007, 2008. But Bill has been in the construction industry for over 30 years. He's got experience in commercial, residential every type of architecture that you can think of. Bill's done it, so they're a really amazing team. I absolutely love working with them.

Speaker 1:

Well, behind every good man there's a good woman, my good friend, lisa, who I love and dearly love so much. So enjoy spending time with them, and we'll talk about that later. But I'm super excited about the upcoming parade. It's going to start on April 13th and I understand Bill and Lisa have a home in the parade.

Speaker 2:

Yes, this year they're doing a collaboration with Legendary Contractors. It is a house at 211 Ivy Cottage Road. Beautiful, beautiful home. It's four bedrooms, three and a half baths, right under 3,300 square foot.

Speaker 1:

So, and does Bill and Lisa have any other specular homes that are completed this time ready to be moved?

Speaker 2:

Nothing on the market yet, but they have some that are in the works currently that we hope to have on the market in the next couple of months.

Speaker 1:

Awesome. So not only does Bill build specular homes where the house is already built, where the consumer can walk in touch, feel it look at the amazing design Miss Lisa has done on it, along with the legendary girls but they can also custom build right.

Speaker 2:

That is correct. Yeah, they can do custom build. We can do turnkey. If you have a lot and you want to come and sit down and bring plans, we can certainly help you with that. Or we can help you pick out plans that will fit your lot and build any house that you can need. You know something small, something big. They'll do it all, and they can also do renovation work as well.

Speaker 1:

And Parade of Homes gives you the opportunity to walk in the home not only to view the work, but really get to visit with the builder. The builder's always on site where they can answer any questions. I know you're going to be on site. I'm looking forward to working with all y'all again this year and spending some time with you guys. Where's the home located? Once again?

Speaker 2:

This is in Le Jardin de Abel, Garden of Abel, which is off of the Youngsville Highway.

Speaker 1:

And is that a Youngsville or Broussard address?

Speaker 2:

It's a Youngsville address. Youngsville address and say it one more time I'm terrible at it, but it's Le Jardin de Abel.

Speaker 1:

Le Jardin de Abel. Yeah, I'm able to do something.

Speaker 2:

What does that mean?

Speaker 1:

It's Garden of. Abel the leave it to bill to come up with something like that right, that's awesome.

Speaker 1:

So please come out and visit, come view the home bill, and lisa will be there. Whether you're looking to buy, he can do it either way you want, whether you want him to build the home and you just move in it, or whether you want him to custom build your dream home. Bill and joel will both be there. And please keep in mind, not only is joel a residential agent, but he's also a commercial agent, right, so he can help with any of those commercial needs and residential needs. How can someone reach you, joel?

Speaker 2:

Best way to get in touch with me is through my cell phone, which is 337-739-0425. Or you can email me at joel at raginrealtorcom, or go to my website, which is wwwraginrealtorcom.

Speaker 1:

And I'm going to ask that you please not forget about the event, the Black and White Gala, that Joel and them are so involved with every year. I know it's the summer, but what's the date?

Speaker 2:

This year. It's the end of August and we're about to announce all of the nominees this year. Next week, next Thursday.

Speaker 1:

So we have a really really amazing group.

Speaker 1:

We're really excited about it. Anything I can do to help here at GMFS, please let us know. We love being involved in that event and attending that event and it's for a great cause. So whether you're looking for real estate or if you're looking to help to fight that battle on cancer, joel can definitely use all the assistance and lead you in the right direction, or if you need assistance. I want to thank you for being my guest and being my friend and my neighbor and we're looking forward to working with you and please come out and see us at the parade one more time. It starts April 13th Parade of Homes. You can purchase your tickets at ahbacom. Joe will be located at Mr Beal and Lisa Scheffler's home Scheffler Built Home, which is located at 211.

Speaker 1:

Ivy Cottage Road, Youngsville. Please join us and thank you for joining me today.

Speaker 2:

Thank you so much, you're welcome.
